Discover and understand photobiology

How do different light wavelengths influence plants at each stage of their life cycle? What specific grow light is best for a particular variety? How can you accelerate growth cycles? Can light shape a plant’s morphology? Light, as a key factor in both the energy and agronomic balance of your cultivation, is an essential element of your operation’s success. Explore the fascinating world of photobiology and discover how this science can enhance the performance of your crops.

How photoreceptors work

Plants are equipped with multiple sensors, including photoreceptors that capture light. Each photoreceptor is sensitive to different colors within the light spectrum, with sensitivity varying based on species, variety and developmental stage. These photoreceptors are interconnected through complex communication channels, meaning any action triggers a ripple effect across the network, activating a cascade of agronomic responses.

The key to a successful lighting recipe

Many discussions on lighting strategy focus on spectrum and color ratios, but a true strategy goes beyond that. Each crop, variety and growth stage demands unique inputs. A strong lighting strategy must be dynamic, adapting to the plant’s agronomic needs, your production goals and the ever-changing environmental and energy conditions. There’s no one-size-fits-all lighting recipe – continuous adjustment of intensity and spectrum is crucial to maximizing production efficiency.

Energy efficiency: better production and consumption management

Your cultivation strategies are closely tied to the ever-changing energy market, as you continually strive to balance agronomic performance with energy consumption.

RED’s lighting strategies adapt in real-time to environmental and economic conditions, prioritizing efficiency. By integrating advanced lighting recipes with the high efficiency of RED T dynamic lighting, we ensure that every kWh consumed is optimized for maximum agronomic performance.

EUE AND LUE: THE NEW ESSENTIAL INDICATORS TO MEASURE PERFORMANCE

LUE

A performance indicator that measures agronomic yield per unit of light, enabling comparison of the agronomic performance of two different lighting strategies.

EUE

A performance indicator that measures agronomic yield per energy consumption, enabling the calculation of consumption and economic profitability of a lighting strategy.
