RED Horticulture proudly unveils its latest innovation in smart greenhouse lighting: Smart Dimming. This cutting-edge feature optimizes artificial light usage by dynamically adjusting the spectrum based on real-time sunlight intensity, ensuring energy efficiency without compromising crop growth. “Smart Dimming provides what’s best for the crop – the right light at the right time,” said Regnier Ten Haaf, Commercial Subsidiary Director of RED Horticulture. “Our expertise in photobiology enables us to make the perfect trade-off between crop needs and cost optimization.”

Smart Lighting with Real-Time Control
Building on over 130 crop lighting strategies, multi-zoning management, and energy consumption monitoring, RED Horticulture’s Smart Dimming represents a significant leap in greenhouse lighting. While previous LED systems featured classic dimming capabilities, Smart Dimming introduces real-time, dynamic LED optimization. “With this functionality, we provide growers with unparalleled control over energy consumption and crop development, redefining adaptive light spectrum management,” said Regnier.

Smart Dimming offers a unique real-time spectrum adjustment capability. “Unlike traditional on/off systems or static intensity dimming, our Smart Dimming continuously adapts to natural lighting conditions. This ensures that the optimal light spectrum is maintained at all times while maximizing energy efficiency, setting us apart as a sustainable leader in greenhouse lighting,” he added.

How Smart Dimming Works
Smart Dimming combines advanced hardware and software to calculate real-time spectrum setpoints based on sunlight intensity, using live and forecasted data from weather services, energy sources, and sensors. “By optimizing power distribution to the most efficient LED colors, Smart Dimming enhances photosynthesis while maintaining crop balance,” Regnier explained. “As sunlight increases, artificial light progressively shifts towards red LEDs, which are the most energy-efficient, maximizing overall energy savings.”

Communication between the MyRED box and light fixtures is facilitated by RED’s proprietary RED Mesh protocol, ensuring seamless integration and efficient operation.
